I mean, I’ve actually driven both vehicles — hard — and there’s not as much in it as you might think. Yes the 3.5 is based on a Toyota motor but Lotus has gone through that pretty thoroughly and its a well established quantity by this point. The torque offered by the Lotus can’t be discounted either.

I love an N/A Read more

The 4.0 in the Cayman isn’t a “way better engine,” (not that its by any means bad) and it’s not that exciting to drive around town. The Emira’s supercharged torque makes it pretty easy to lug around and the supercharger whine when you really step on it is lovely. Read more

The Cayenne is genuinely awesome to drive, and I say that as someone who daily drives a 911. It always has been. I love driving super fast, super sporty cars but sometimes we have to talk about/drive what people actually buy too. Read more

Over reported. Ditto with bore scoring. A little preventative maintenance will take care of things (mostly for resale value). Read more

They hashed this out years ago. Hence Singer being hardcore about only referring to their vehicles as Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer etc. Read more

I feel that. I had to change vets after we took Hank on his last ride. He was 17. Read more

I like EBC yellows usually, but my favorite performance pads have been Porterfield R4-S, though the cost and quality of those have seem to gone the wrong ways recently, or so I hear. Read more

One thing that’s worth mentioning in the 996 interior’s favor is that it’s incredibly easy and straightforward to take apart and put back together. I haven’t run across anything yet that requires a special tool, which is definitely not the case for the 991. Read more

Nah, tons of interiors from that time period all looked like that. It used to bother me more before I owned the car but now if the difference is owning a 911 with not my favorite interior or not owning a 911, I’m going with the former every time. Read more

Not sure how a 16" rim and tire from a Volvo weigh more than an 18x10 wheel with a big tire on it, but hey, you do you. Read more

The stock shifter in good condition is only ok. The PO on mine was was a SpaceX engineer and did some dark 3D printed wizardry in there and my shifter feels fantastic, that and the new cables make a huge difference too. Once it get sloppy I’ll either go with a Numeric shifter and cables or something similar. Read more

A 15mm spacer at all four corners isn’t going to make a substantial difference. Plus, Porsche is great, the stock car is excellent for being stock, but the company isn’t infallible. The beauty of it being my car is that I can set it up just right, which isn’t all that far from what Porsche did. That’s why I’m only a Read more

I’ve driven other cars on these Hawks and I don’t love them, but they’re still not what I want. I do know my brake fluid is a little old, and approaching the threshold for moisture, but I doubt that’s the cause. I don’t think there’s something “wrong” with my brakes so much as I’m picky and since most of my driving is Read more

Didn’t do too much as far as suspension mods go. Just coilovers and only set to the factory sport suspension height which is 10mm lower than standard for a US car. The rest is just new stock arms. Read more

I’ve got the one in the tool kit. I also am already swapping to studs, so non-issue. Read more

Serious instances of bore scoring on the 996 are, I suspect, over-reported. By serious I mean massive oil consumption. If the bore looks scored but everything functions as normal, is there really an issue?

I get that this is a real concern for 997.1 C2S owners, but for the 996 crowd, I think its more a case of the Read more

I can say that with the exception of the super-easy-to-scratch soft-touch plastics on the console etc. the interior of my car is wearing super well. Being a high-mileage car, the steering wheel is a bit shiny for my liking but other than that, I have very little to complain about. Read more
